We are constantly acquiring many different kinds of items every day for our store stock and online sales stock. If you wish to sell or trade in some items to us, you are welcome to come in to any of our locations during normal business hours, and no appointment is necessary. For your convenience, we are detailing some of our general policies here regarding what items we will take, what we will not take, and what we can offer for your items.
Before you bring in your collection, please make sure items are free of dirt or dust, and stored neatly in boxes. Comics must not be double-bagged, and please check for missing or loose covers. This allows our associates to view and assess your collection more expediently and is considerate of our other shoppers.
ITEMS WE PAY CASH FOR
Here is a very basic starting point for the types of items we are interested in purchasing. If you are unsure about a certain item, feel free to give us a call.
- graphic novels
- comic book back issues
- vintage GI Joe, Transformers,
Star Wars, etc figures
- horror magazines
- select gaming products
- superhero related merchandise
- toys that are still in package
- select magazines
Please keep in mind that as a business, our cash offers are usually a fraction of market value. Our standard rates for most comic books from the 1970s to the present are in the 5¢-10¢range, since they tend to be very common and we already have a very large stock. More rare comics will be judged based on individual condition.
ITEMS WE DO NOT PAY CASH FOR
These are things that we either don’t carry, or are no longer accepting due to space concerns, etc.
- trading cards
- adult paraphernalia
- used board games
- VHS tapes
- Playboy back issues ’70s-present
- loose, played-with toys
- text books
- sports memorabilia
- M:TG or other CCGs
Some of these are items that we may accept for trade credit, but that depends on the item and its condition (more on this further on).
TRADING ITEMS FOR CREDIT
If you wish to get a better deal on your items, we gladly offer a greater amount of trade credit for items than we do in cash. For items we pay cash for, you can receive up to twice the amount intrade credit and use it to get yourself some other cool items! Here’s a little info about how our trade system works.
TRADE CREDIT / GENERAL USED CREDIT
Since anything you trade in is considered second-hand, trade credit from that will go towards only our second-hand store stock. This includes but is not limited to: DVDs, back issues, used books, some magazines, and more. Trade credit does not apply towards anything that we get directly from a distributor, such as graphic novels, statues, or new comics.
This is credit you receive for trading in used books at our Forest Hill location. Aside from a few select display items up front, book credit applies towards any of the books in the book exchange. You can also purchase audiobooks with this credit. For more information, check out our page about the book exchange.
HARLEQUIN ROMANCE CREDIT
This is a sub category of book credit. It applies only towards the Harlequin Romance series of books, such as SuperRomance, Desire, Blaze, Intrigue, etc. Steeple Chase and similar series are considered part of this category.
Since we don’t give cash refunds, we only offer this type of credit for item returns of new stock, at an equal exchange rate. New credit can be used for any items in our stores, whether new or second-hand. It does not typically apply to online sales.
ITEMS WE ACCEPT FOR TRADE CREDIT ONLY
- Playboy/Penthouse back issues
- adult magazines
- other men’s magazines
- art books
These are items we will sometimes accept, but very selectively. All compact discs must be completely free of any scratches, dust, and cracks. Magazines ideally still include covers and centerfolds, with no stains or tears. Art books must still have their dustjackets.
